Emily Tran is currently pursuing a Masters of Music in Piano Pedagogy at Texas Christian University. She teaches at TCU’s Music Preparatory Division, TCU’s Pedagogy Lab Program, TCU’s Extended Education, TCU’s Intro to Piano for the Non-musician, and TCU’s College Elective Students as part of her graduate assistantship for the 2015-2017 school years. Additionally, she enjoys teaching privately in studios and homes around the Fort Worth, Keller, and Burleson areas. She currently studies with her piano teacher, Harold Martina and pedagogue teacher, Dr. Ann Gipson, at TCU.
She double majored in Piano Performance and Arts Management at the Honors College at the College of Charleston, as a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship, Music Academic Scholarship, Kite Foundation Scholarship in Piano, College of Charleston Foundation Endowed Scholarship, John A. Zeigler Jr. Music Scholarship, Edwin Davis Peacock Scholarship, and AT&T Foundations Scholarship. She has also received the John A. Zeigler Jr. Award for Excellence in Piano and has been recognized on the Dean’s List during her four years of undergraduate studies. Emily was a student of Ran Dank from fall of 2014 until spring of 2015, and has also studied with Robin Zemp and Enrique Graf. She has performed in master classes with such renowned pianists as Ilana Vered, Ciro Fodere, Sasha Starcevich, Konstantinos Papadakis, Stephen Beus, and Anne-Marie McDermott.
Emily began piano lessons in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her mother, Trang Tran, at the age of five. Under the mentorship of Dzidra Reimanis, she was the Carolyn McMahon Scholarship recipient at the Community School of the Arts for six consecutive years. She won first place in the Elementary, Junior, and Senior Divisions at the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum, the Josephine Bunch Sande Award at the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs, and the Senior Concerto Competition at the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum. She also began violin lessons at the age of seven, also receiving awards and serving as concertmistress for various orchestras in Charlotte. She has participated in ensembles, including All-State Orchestra, Charlotte Civics Orchestra, Beaufort Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Stage Orchestra, College of Charleston Orchestra, and others. In Charleston, South Carolina, Emily has performed in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, Charleston Historic Foundation tours, the Young Artist Series at Bishop Gadsden, the Remington Series at Franke at Seaside, and Monday NightConcert Series at the College of Charleston.
Above all, her passion is teaching private and group piano and violin lessons, whether it was with Music & Arts in Charleston, South Carolina, with her mother’s private studio growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, or presently, at Texas Christian University, in her private studio, or in studios in the Fort Worth area. Emily desires to utilize her musical knowledge and skills to create new opportunities and experiences for the community around her and to promote a higher understanding of musicality through styles of learning, various projects, programs, and organizations. She also enjoys being the worship director at College Avenue Vietnamese Baptist Church and her local home church in Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as performing in ensembles for weddings and special occasions. Her other interests include spending time with loved ones, cooking and enjoying a meal with others, reading and writing, tennis, volleyball, running, and creating and inspiring others.
