Eric Wonyong Jo
Born in Korea, Eric Wonyong Jo began studying piano at age six. After coming to the United States in 2002, he won top honors in many competitions, including the first place in the Music Teachers’ National Association State Competition and the Alabama Music Teachers’ Association Competition for both solo and concerto divisions. At age sixteen, Eric made his concerto debut with the Shoals Symphony after winning the Shoals Concerto Competition. In 2007, he was accepted to the Glenn Gould School of Royal Conservatory of Music with the prestigious Eva Chau and Hilda D. Borman Scholarships, under the studio of critically acclaimed teacher Marc Durand. During six years of studying at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, he successfully completed his Performance and Artist Diploma Program and performed in many master classes with internationally renowned artists such as Leon Fleisher, Gary Graffman, Robert McDonald, and John Perry. Eric also actively explored and presented chamber music.
In 2010, he won the Glenn Gould Chamber Music Competition with Brahms’ piano quintet in f minor and performed piano duo pieces for the Koerner Hall’s Pre-Concert Series and the Four Seasons Center’s Noon-Hour Concert Series. Moreover, he extended his studies by participating and performing at summer music festivals in Orford and Salzburg, where he was among a few students chosen to play in the Wiener Saal for the Mozarteum Academy Concert Series.
In 2013, he started his master’s degree in piano performance at Indiana University with the prestigious Associated Instructor position, to which he was appointed for three consecutive years. He finished his master’s degree with one of the world’s most distinguished artists Menahem Pressler and Performance Diploma with Jean-Louis Haguenauer. Mr. Jo is continuously building his career at Texas Christian University under the instruction of Tamás Ungár.
